Encountered by the Enterprise in the original series, the Tholians have star ships that utilize an energy weapon projected between multiple ship to create a "Tholian web". The web could be used as a high power immobilization field/tractor beam to pull captured star ships back to Tholian territory. After meeting Kirk the Tholians use the web on the Enterprise demanding the crew comply with their demands.
